If you were at Walt Disney World in the early 1990s, then you may've had the luck of getting to see the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at MGM Studios! I myself had that luck back in June of 1991 when I went to Florida with my family along with some close relatives! Although the TMNT didn't get too much recognition since they weren't actually owned by Disney, MGM was their own little territory where they could put on shows every so often and sign autographs! April O' Neil joined them as well, but none of them ever spoke (for obvious reasons). The Ninja Turtles made appearances in Walt Disney's Very Merry Christmas Parade a few years in a row to sing their own rendition of "Santa Clause is Coming to Town". They also appeared during the Easter parade dancing to their hit tour single "Pizza Power"! |
Sadly, attractions such as these are only around as long as the public adores them. Upon their fad fading in 1995, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles left the MGM community and were replaced by more recent Disney film stars, like Buzz Lightyear and Woody from the Toy Story films. While the change was heartbreaking to most die-hard TMNT fans at the time, it wasn't much of a surprise to Disney World patrons that it was an inevitable conclusion. Alas, we may never see the Ninja Turtles set foot in any Disney theme-park ever again. Even Nickelodeon's CGI version of TMNT has now come to an end, but for a while they popped up at many events and were regularly showcased at the now closed Nickelodeon Suites in Orlando, Florida! |
